VG+ or better Japanese pressings of phenomenal jazz LPs, sourced directly from Japan. Each one chosen just for you based on your taste profile. No two members receive the same set of records. A uniquely bespoke curatorial experience.
A Kura-exclusive, 12”×12” fine art print based on one of Kissa Kissa co-founder Nina’s original paintings from the walls of Kissa Kissa. A different one each quarter. Every one an homage to a trailblazing jazz icon and album.
Invitation-only happy hours with special tastings. Pick up your records, meet other KURA members, and enjoy the perks of membership with your friends at Kissa Kissa.
Each quarter’s curated package includes a limited-edition bit of merch created solely for that quarter’s KURA members. Like first pressings, they’re collectible pieces that are made once and then gone.
Japanese jazz pressings are different. The vinyl is quieter. The mastering is meticulous. The packaging is considered. These are records that were made to be listened to — not collected, not flipped, not displayed.
KURA exists because finding them shouldn't require a dealer contact list and a shipping forwarder. Danny does the hunting. You do the listening.
When you join, you tell Danny about your relationship with jazz — what you love, what you own, where you listen. He builds a taste profile and uses it to source three records from Japan that are specific to you.
Every quarter is different. Every member's package is different. The records are sourced from dealers across Tokyo and Osaka, inspected, and shipped to Brooklyn. You pick them up at invitation-only events at Kissa Kissa — special evenings with tastings, guest selectors, and other treats for KURA members.
$149 per quarter, plus NY sales tax. Your membership renews quarterly and you can cancel anytime from your member dashboard.
In-person pickup at a member evening at Kissa Kissa in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. We’re gauging interest in shipping for a future phase but we honestly think the in-person component of KURA is part of what makes it worthwhile.
No — and that’s the point. Danny curates based on your taste profile. The discovery is part of the experience.
Danny avoids the hits — there’s no need to curate a copy of Kind of Blue — so the odds are slim that he will select anything you already have on the shelf. In the unlikely event it does happen, just let us know before you leave the pickup event.
Yes. KURA’s membership is limited because of its very nature. Since the curation is personal and the records are one of a kind, it is not something we can or want to scale out. Part of the beauty of KURA is that it will always be a small community of people sharing in discovery together.
The founding cohort is fifty members. Not a marketing number — it’s how many people Danny can genuinely curate for, one taste profile at a time, while the records still get hunted properly. Those fifty carry founding member status permanently: recognized in every quarterly bulletin KURA ever prints.
Yes! You can purchase a single-quarter gift membership for someone. You’ll have the option to fill out their taste profile yourself or let them do it. We can notify them right away, on a date you choose, or give you a link to share yourself.
